Beliefs and GovernmentLike Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome was a polytheistic civilization. Some of the Gods they believed in are listed to the left. Two of the most popular religions were Judaism and Christianity but still believed in more than one God. People went to the Roman Catholic Church to pray for these Gods in fear they would punish them, similar to the Greek beliefs. Also, the Romans began with an aristocracy in 753 B.C. when it was founded. Only a few powerful people voted in this aristocracy. Soon, after Rome got its feet under them, it moved to a Republic where everyone votes on anything.

Geography and LocationIn 753 B.C., Rome was founded and soon took over all the area around the Mediterranean Sea by 117 A.C. Here, many geographic features were present. Peninsulas, deserts, rivers, mountains, islands, and river valleys were in the Ancient Roman Empire. With strong military leaders such as Augustus, or Octavian, the Holy Roman Empire was able to spread and take over areas such as Greece, parts of Egypt and Great Britain. The huge empire crumbled into the Byzantine Empire in 476 A.D., decreasing its size and power due to losing the western half of the empire from political and economic troubles.
